Swimming

Room 3 is swimming for the next 3 weeks. We start on Monday at 9am and our focus will be on keeping ourselves safe in the water. All students need swimsuits, caps and goggles. Cotton fabric cannot be worn in the pool, as it fluffs and the fluff blocks the filters.  Boys need liners or clean swimming undies and girls need tight fitting togs or swim-shorts.

Hungry Hungry Hippos

Mrs Su'a got some free equipment for the school which included some play pit balls. Mr Searle decided to try out a new game. We used the desks to create an arena, along with some hoops and our lily pads we created out own life size Hungry Hungry Hippos game.

It was lots of fun so Mr Searle used it for his Whanau time activity today as well.

Amazing Race 2

After our first Amazing race  in term 2 was so successful we decided to do it again to give our leaders from last time the opportunity to participate in the race themselves. Students designed new challenges in groups and tested them out before the day. At each station they received a ticket with a maths question. When the team completed all 12 stations they returned to Room 1 to solve the problems.
It was great to watch the students showing agency and managing the whole event themselves.

Water safety - rescue skills

In our final week our water safety we have been looking at different rescue techniques using different tools and materials around us. We tried out swimming in old clothes to see how they influenced our ability to float and swim. The students have been learning how to signal for help correctly and identify when someone is in trouble.

Athletics Day

Today we had our Athletics Day.  We had great fun competing in activities such as long jump and high jump, quoits (using a discus throw) and torpedo throwing (javelin).  In the afternoon we watched the finals of the sprints across the year groups and we all cheered when the top senior sprinters beat the teachers.  It was a close race but the students came through at the end.

Whanau Time

In Whanau time this term we are exploring the value of consideration and in our team building group we are showing how we can be considerate.  Here we are working together to make a paper run for a marble to roll down into a bucket.

Water safety

Our big idea for Health and PE this term is how can we survive in and around water?

We have done some work on identify hazards in different places where water is, e.g. rivers, beaches, lakes, pools etc

Today we were looking at different ways we can stay afloat to survive, we practised starfish & mushroom floats along with learning to scull to save energy over a long time.

We are also continuing to practise our swimming strokes as well.

Science - past two weeks

In the past couple of weeks we have done some work around star systems and the skeletal system. We have had fun exploring the two kits and trying out the different experiments.
